Priscilla Powers, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, NCSC
I help teens navigate anxiety, depression, and school-related stress so they can feel more confident, balanced, and connected in their daily lives.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with a background in school counseling and a passion for helping teens find their footing through life’s toughest seasons.
For years, I’ve worked alongside students, families, and educators, supporting teens who felt overwhelmed by academic pressure, anxiety, social changes, or family transitions. I know how difficult it can be to keep up with everything while feeling like you’re falling apart on the inside.
My goal is to create a warm, down-to-earth space where teens can open up, gain clarity, and build coping skills that last beyond the therapy room.
My therapeutic style is grounded in the belief that healing happens when we understand both where we’ve been and how we’re coping now. I blend several evidence-based approaches to offer care that is practical, compassionate, and tailored to each person’s unique needs.
I draw from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help clients understand how difficult experiences shape thoughts, feelings, and behaviors—and to build healthier ways of responding. I incorporate principles from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to strengthen emotional connection, improve communication, and reduce patterns of conflict or disconnection in relationships. When clients feel overwhelmed by strong emotions or stress, I use skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support grounding, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and effective coping.
While I use these structured tools to create meaningful change in the present, my work is also informed by psychodynamic insight, which means we gently explore how past experiences, beliefs, and relational patterns may still be influencing your behavior today.
Simply put, I help you understand your story, develop practical skills for managing what you’re facing now, and build healthier patterns for the future—within a supportive, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. My goal is for you to feel seen, understood, and empowered as we work together toward healing and growth.
As a school counselor, I saw firsthand how much stress today’s teens carry—balancing school, friendships, family expectations, and their own inner world. Many felt alone with their worries, unsure how to ask for help or put their feelings into words.
I became a counselor to give teens and families a safe place to slow down, be honest, and feel truly heard. Therapy offers a supportive space to untangle big emotions, learn new skills, and find a more hopeful path forward—together.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor with more than two decades of experience supporting students, families, and educators. I earned my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Mercer University, focusing my research on strengthening the clinical skills of school counselors.
Before moving into private practice, I served as a school counselor at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and worked as a college and career counselor and special education job coach. These roles have given me a broad understanding of adolescent development, family systems, and the unique pressures teens face today.
I am an active member of professional organizations including the American Counseling Association, the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia, and the Georgia School Counselor Association. I have also presented and written on topics such as trauma treatment, child poverty, burnout prevention, cultural matching, and clinical skill development for school counselors.
Buckhead Counseling Group is an out-of-network provider for most insurance plans. Many families choose to self-pay and, when eligible, submit documentation to their insurance company for possible reimbursement.
I’m happy to discuss fees, documentation, and any questions you may have about payment before scheduling.
My counseling style is warm, conversational, and collaborative. I don’t just sit and nod—I actively help teens and families understand what’s going on beneath the surface and experiment with new ways of thinking, coping, and relating.
Sessions are a judgment-free space where teens can be honest about what they’re feeling, ask questions, and try out new skills in a supportive environment.
Together, we focus on helping teens build resilience, self-understanding, and practical tools they can use at home, at school, and in their relationships.
